Artist's Biography
Cheryl Barton-Petrie
I was born in Los Angeles and received
my formal art training in Pasadena and in
the Aegean Islands. I have a graduate
degree from San Francisco State
University.

I have worked in many media including
sculpture, printmaking, and painting.
Currently I teach aesthetics and art
history at the Academy of Art University
in San Francisco and have a small art
school and business.
ca. 1960
My drawings and sculptures are in private collections in Greece, England, Zimbabwe,
Korea, and the U.S. and have been shown in some of these countries. I've also curated art
exhibitions at the Norton Simon Museum, Laguna Beach Museum, and the Southwest
Museum, trained docents at the Oakland Museum of California and SF MOMA, and am
published as an art critic, poet, and features correspondent.

My travels and living experiences abroad include working for NGOs in Africa and
teaching and writing in developing countries throughout the world. These latter
experiences especially, have added dimensions to my art.
I work in response to the imbalance I feel in the
world, especially of late. In my art, I try to offer
a sense of peace, yet also awareness; to capture
the essence of nostalgia, but also hope.

Please enjoy it!
